By the time the U.S. Olympic basketball team was done flexing its offensive muscle against Spain, plenty of observers were convinced they had just watched the gold-medal favorites.

Yin Jian won China's first-ever sailing gold meda, claiming the gold medal by just one point overall in women's RS:X after Wednesday's medal race. In the men's class, New Zealander Tom Ashley won gold.

All four Americans advanced into tomorrow's BMX competition, but three-time world champion Kyle Bennett dislocated his left shoulder in his third and final heat. Bennett plans to race Thursday.

American wrestler Ben Askren earned a win in his first match in the 74-kilogram class on Day 12, but fell in his round-of-16 bout. He was eliminated when Ivan Fundora, whom he beat in the first round -- lost as well.

Crystl Bustos blasted a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning -- which followed a Caitlin Lowe RBI single -- as the U.S. powered over Japan, 4-1. Pitcher Monica Abbott picked up the win.

The defending champion U.S. softball team survived an extra-inning nailbiter against Japan Wednesday before riding Crystl Bustos' ninth-inning blast to a 4-1 win and a spot in the gold-medal final.

The golds were theirs to lose, and that's exactly what they did. Lolo Jones squandered her 100m hurdles lead, placing seventh, while Sanya Richards led early but barely was able to finish third in the 400m.
